This is Queenie, powerful by name and in spirit.
Graphite has always been a love of mine. That gentle layering of a single hue to create volume, depth and romance is so very alluring in this colour saturated life. I like to add a simple limited palette of faded antique colours of lavender, peach, candy floss and cream to evoke memory of the old black and white portrait photos that were hand painted to show the flush of a young brides cheek or the crystal blue of a child's innocent eyes.
This graphite and watercolour and gold leaf piece on cotton paper measures 40 x 50 cm and is securely mounted onto a mauve painted 100% cotton canvas with delicate hand stitched silk thread on the corners.
This one of the illustrations created early in my career and is for sale for a brief period of time, the month of March, before being retired permanently to make way for new illustrations.
